House of Heyday is brought to you by Jessica Aldred- designer, embroiderer and artist. Jessica is a graduate of the Royal School of Needlework and an Artist of Dean Clough, supporting and being supported by the Arts Charity Dean Clough (ACDC). She co-authored a book called ‘Adventures in Needlework’, has taught internationally and has worked on many public and private commissions. Most notably she was a member of the team who created the embroidery for the wedding dress and veil for the Princess of Wales and she worked on embroidery projects for the King’s coronation. She also demonstrated embroidery to the late HRH Her Majesty The Queen and taught at the V&A Museum as part of their exhibition ‘Frida Kahlo: Making Her Self Up’.
Jessica has spent her career helping people through the arts. She believes in the magic of nature and the power of creativity to support wellbeing, mental health, peace, learning and growth. Through her work at Purple Patch Arts Jessica runs lifelong learning programmes across Yorkshire for learning disabled and autistic adults. She also leads traditional hand embroidery classes and art and embroidery workshops which are designed to aid and support wellbeing.
